Body Shapes IX

Body Shapes IX belongs to a playful series in which Rolando Diaz deconstructs the human form and reimagines it through abstract shapes. Curving and fragmented elements suggest a woman’s leg, arm, and other parts of the body, while the unexpected incorporation of a mango evokes the shape of a breast.

By distorting familiar anatomy, Diaz invites viewers to assemble the figure for themselves. Shapes may appear ambiguous or disconnected, creating a visual puzzle in which the boundaries of the body are continually questioned.

The work also reflects Diaz’s experimental approach to materials. Its distinctive colors were created using powdered concrete stains mixed with oil, producing unusual tones and textures. Through this inventive combination of form, color, and material, Body Shapes IX transforms the body into a lively exploration of abstraction and perception.
